Asian Hedge Funds Still Receiving Money Despite Losses

Investors are continuing to pour money into hedge funds targeted towards Asian investments, even though Asian hedge funds faced big losses in the second quarter of the year. It seems that investors are counting on a strengthened Chinese currency against the United States dollar after the recent reforms in China's monetary policy. Investors are still eager to participate in the currency markets of China, hoping that these changes will allow greater opportunities, such as currency trading or convertible debt arbitrage, for hedge fund managers.
The strong interest of investors in Asian hedge funds strangely contrasted the sharp drop in them. Stock indexes in the Asian region fell drastically, and the hedge funds which focused on Asia lost $2.4 billion in the second quarter.
